Commending Molly Ames upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State Senate
Expands the offense of assault in the second degree to include the infliction of physical injury to employees of domestic violence shelters and persons seeking shelter in such shelters.
Permits the principal of any high school to allow any local fire department, upon request, to enter the school for the purpose of fire department junior recruitment, including, but not limited to: making presentations; disseminating literature; and answering questions by students.
Requires ad hoc members to be appointed in order to constitute a quorum on the board of electric generating facilities; includes ad hoc members as part of the board.
Relates to the appointment process for state board positions; provides for a 60 day time period to conduct a background check on potential nominees to state board positions before they can officially be appointed.
Establishes the canine officer health monitoring fund which allows for applicants to request reimbursement from the division of criminal justice services for health costs related to regular health or injury associated with canine officers.
Requires the division of state police to send renewal notices to holders of a license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver at least 90 days before expiration of such license.
Relates to the justified use of physical force; removes requirement that a person facing an imminent physical threat must retreat; provides immunity from civil and criminal liability.
Establishes a statewide program to provide free SUNY, CUNY, and community college tuition to active volunteer firefighters, volunteer emergency medical services providers, and volunteer auxiliary police officers.
