House Bill 1340, known as the Ultrasound Opportunity Act, mandates that any facility performing abortions must offer women seeking an abortion after eight weeks of gestation the opportunity to receive and view an active ultrasound of their unborn child. This offer must be made by the physician performing the abortion, or a qualified ultrasound technician, prior to any part of the abortion procedure or the administration of anesthesia. Notably, the legislation recognizes exceptions in cases of medical emergencies, allowing physicians to bypass these requirements when immediate medical action is necessary to protect the woman's health.
